The tradition of Šyvis dancing is a unique element of intangible cultural heritage that brings recognition to our region. A lively procession of costumed performers travels from homestead to homestead from the second day of Christmas until the Feast of the Three Kings. At the heart of the procession is the magnificent white Šyvis, leaping over obstacles and setting the wheel of time in motion while delighting householders along the way.
Šyvis is accompanied by a colourful cast of characters: the devil, the stork, the bear with its handler, gypsies, soldiers, doctors, and many other spirited figures.
We invite children of all ages to experience the joy of traditional masquerade processions, step into imaginative roles, and take part in dancing our lively Šyvis.
