THE ROSE – THE FLOWER OF THE MANOR

“It is said that the scent of roses reaches the very depths of the heart. To understand the soul of this flower, there is no need to study catalogues, memorise countless names, or plant the newest varieties in the garden. The soul of the rose is not about that. A rose is fragrance, poetry, art, and history. Let us put on rose-coloured glasses, travel through time, get to know the oldest roses of our gardens, and look at roses in a different way”
(Dovilė Rylienė, The Soul of the Rose: Symbol, Plant, Medicine, Fragrance, Food, Ornament, 2023).

We present the former and the currently restored manor rose garden, рассказывая about the rose species planted there and the significance of this flower in political and historical contexts—from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and the Baroque periods—as well as the role of roses in the gardens of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.

At the end of the journey, you will be invited to enjoy a rose dessert tasting (in summer) or rose tea (in winter).
